He’s Incredible: Tottenham Transfer Could Now Impact Future Deal in Ange Postecoglou masterplan

Wilson Odobert’s transfer to Tottenham from Burnley could have an impact on two current Spurs players going forward

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side now look very well stocked for wingers heading into the 2024/25 Premier League season. Already boasting a number of wide options, the club added to their squad on Friday morning with the signing of Wilson Odobert from Championship side Burnley.

A transfer that very much came out of nowhere with barely any talk about a switch to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beforehand, the 19-year-old has signed a five-year contract in north London and he takes on the No.28 shirt vacated by Tanguy Ndombele. Odobert makes the move from Turf Moor for £25million plus another £5million in add-ons

The Frenchman is no stranger to the Premier League after playing 29 games in England’s top flight for the Clarets last season, registering three goals and three assists in the process. Maybe not the most eye-catching numbers posted by the teenager, it needs to be remembered that Odobert was playing in a struggling Burnley team and that he will only benefit from his time in the Premier League and also the challenge of a relegation scrap.

Odobert demonstrated his pace and quality at the beginning of the week after scoring in Burnley’s 4-1 win away at Luton Town on the opening weekend of the season. It proved to be his final appearance for the Lancashire club with a surprise move to Tottenham finalised four days later.

Odobert’s permanent switch to N17 does appear to be bad news for Manor Solomon going forward. Restricted to only six appearances last term and only returning to action in pre-season due to a knee injury, the Israeli’s football in the team’s summer friendlies has also been limited to say the least.

An unused substitute in the past three friendlies and now behind Mikey Moore and Odobert in the pecking order, a move away before the month is out looks like it will be the best option for Solomon when it comes to playing regularly. Odobert’s transfer could also potentially impact Timo Werner at the end of this season.
