Following Austin Dillon’s accident into Victory Lane, NASCAR Reacts.
Austin Dillon crashed Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin in the final lap at Richmond Raceway en route to victory lane
Sunday’s race at Richmond Raceway ended in drama. An overtime restart brought chaos as drivers battled for the win and a spot in the playoffs.
Joey Logano cleared Austin Dillon on the overtime restart with just 2 laps to go. He opened the gap quickly.
On the final lap, Dillon skipped the brake pedal into turn three and drove into the bumper of race leader Logano. Logano spun.
Denny Hamlin was looking under Dillon after the initial incident. Dillon turned left, hooking Hamlin in the right rear and putting him into the wall.
With two cars down, Dillon survived and drove to victory lane.
“It’s chicken shit! There’s no doubt about it,” Joey Logano told NBC Sports.
“It’s obviously foul. But, it’s fair in NASCAR. We’re just a different league,” Denny Hamlin stated.

Elton Sawyer comments
“Our sports has been a contact sport for a long time,” NASCAR’s Elton Sawyer stated after the race.
“We always hear, ‘Where’s the line?’ And, did someone cross the line? I would say, the last lap was awful close to the line.”
“We’ll take a look at all the available resources from audio to video. If anything rises to a level that we feel like we need to penalize, then we’ll do that on Tuesday.”
“Historically, that hasn’t been our DNA, to take wins away. But, that’s not to say that going forward this wouldn’t start to set a precedent. We’d have to look at it.”
“It happened fast. But, in my view, that’s getting really close to crossing the line.”
Joey Logano was heated after the race. He did a lengthy burnout right next to the No. 3 crew on the pit lane. Logano was yelled at by an official as he exited his car.
“We don’t want to make a split second decision and get it wrong. We’ll look at everything that happened on the last lap and post-race. And see if any penalties need to be issued,” Sawyer stated of Logano’s burnout.
