The Saints are looking to add Premier League experience to their side ahead of the new season.

Southampton have made necessary signings this season ahead of the new campaign, including the likes of Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Ronnie Edwards bolstering the backline.

Ben Brereton Diaz has been brought in to provide an attacking spark for the side that are still rather light on the front line, despite him struggling for Sheffield United in the Premier League last season as he suffered relegation with the Blades following his loan move in January.

The Saints have also made shrewd signings in the centre-of-the-park, such as Flynn Downes, who arrived from West Ham United on a permanent deal following his successful loan spell last season.

Adam Lallana has also arrived at the club for his second spell on the south coast, however Russell Martin’s side have not finished there in looking to bolster their midfield with Premier League experience.

Southampton eye deal for Oliver Skipp from Tottenham

Southampton are one of three Premier League sides eyeing up a deal to bring in Oliver Skipp from Tottenham, with Leicester City and Ipswich Town also reportedly interested, per The Guardian.

It is reported that Skipp is keen for more game time at Premier League level, with the three promoted sides willing to offer that to the 23-year-old.

The former England U21 international has played 77 Premier League matches whilst at Tottenham, including a total of 21 last season, where he was utilised both as a defensive-midfielder and at full-back on the odd occasion.

Oliver Skipp deal works perfectly for all parties

Southampton have done well to ensure that they have prioritised Premier League experience when looking to bring in midfielders.

Lallana is a prime example of someone who will provide a necessary impact on the squad in the dressing room, even if he isn’t playing every minute for the Saints.

Skipp provides the best of both as his experience tied with his young age, whilst also playing for a top Premier League side, will be massive for Southampton in ensuring they have quality in the centre-of-the-park for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign.

It will also be no surprise to see Tottenham move on the youngster, with them not necessarily being able to provide the game time that Skipp is prioritising at this stage in his career.

Southampton’s newly-found experience in their side will be massive for Martin’s side this campaign, and if they are able to edge ahead of Leicester City and Ipswich Town for him, then they are certainly setting themselves up for success this season.
