Ever since Josh Harris’s ownership group purchased the Washington Commanders from Daniel Snyder in 2023, there has been plenty of speculation about the new boss changing the franchise’s team name.
Founded in 1932, the team changed its name to the Washington Football Team in 2020. When Snyder was still in charge in ’22, the team’s shirts had the moniker Commanders.
Everyone has an opinion on the name, as one could expect. Majorie Harris, the owner and Josh Harris’s wife, told reporters on Wednesday that there were some good, some bad, and some in the center. We have a lot of work ahead of us, in my opinion. We’re going to put that name problem on hold for the time being until we can move forward.
“To be honest, I spent the entire day in the community. I continued to call the group the Commanders. I think it sounds very fantastic, you know that? In light of this, it’s the
Magic Johnson, a co-owner of the team, made hints last summer that the Commanders would undergo another name change now that a new ownership group is in place.
Johnson declared on The Today Show in July that “I think everything’s on the table, especially after this year.” “We’ll see where we are with the name, but I can’t say [for sure] right now.”
The Washington, D.C. Football Club, the RedWolves, and the Commanders were the last three contenders for the new team name, according to ESPN’s John Keim. The Presidents, Brigade, Redhogs, Football Team, Armada, and Defenders were all taken into consideration by the franchise.
For the time being, though, it seems like rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels will don a Commanders uniform to start his NFL career.
