Another uncommitted 2024 prospect visiting Kentucky with hopes of adding to class
Jamie Vinson is a former Vanderbilt commit who is back on the market and looking at Kentucky as his landing spot.
Any thoughts of the Kentucky high school basketball class being finalized have been thrown out the window as Mark Pope and his staff are targeting a former SEC commit.
Jamie Vinson was committed to Vanderbilt but reopened his recruitment after head coach Jerry Stackhouse was let go following the season. He is currently on a visit to Kentucky with the aim of perhaps joining Pope’s impressive debut squad.
Only one day after the Wilcats hosted their top transfer target, Chaz Lanier, Vinson is reportedly back on campus at Kentucky.
Vinson, a 6-foot-11, 215-pound center from Oak Hill, Virginia, is rated as a three-star prospect and is pursuing offers from South Carolina, Cal, Rutgers, and other schools. So far, he has made trips to Rutgers and South Carolina.
When Vinson decided to commit to Vanderbilt, 247Sports national recruiting analyst Brandon Jenkins described him as “a high-upside frontcourt prospect who can immediately contribute as a shot alterer.””Offensively, he shows floor spacing potential and can score with a soft touch around the basket.”
While Vinson would likely be filling the 13th and final scholarship — and be behind a front court that is filled out — played against extremely veteran players like Andrew Carr and Amari Williams in addiition to a former In practice, having McDonald’s All-American in Brandon Garrison every day would be incredibly helpful for Vinson’s growth.
Additionally, Vinson is the kind of player that Mark Pope is hoping to add to round out his lineup.
Pope declared last week that the 13th scholarship is a floating item. “Our aim is that it might be for a spot reserved for a young player. A senior player who plans to take a redshirt year may be able to use it. It might serve as a project location. Something for a high-risk guy, perhaps?That’s our perspective.
Vinson would be a part of a top-tier guard class that included Trent Noah, Collin Chandler, and Travis Perry.
