‘He’ll be really disappointed’: Pundit says Spurs star made big mistake after ‘incredible’ work vs Liverpool
Goalkeeping coach Dave Watson has suggested that Guglielmo Vicario will be devastated after doing something incredible just before Tottenham Hotspur conceded their first goal against Liverpool on Sunday.
Ange Postecoglou saw almost little progress in the first hour at Anfield on Sunday as the Reds completely outclassed Spurs.
Jurgen Klopp’s team was merciless, with Mohamed Salah opening the score with a header at the back post after 16 minutes as Tottenham attempted to prevent a fourth straight loss.
Cody Gakpo, who cut inside from the left wing and then clipped a lovely cross towards the six-yard box, was the source of the fantastic pass.
Despite getting a hand on Salah’s header, Guglielmo Vicario was unable to block it as the Italian appeared to stumble backward.

Speaking on Ben Foster’s YouTube channel, Dave Watson suggested that Vicario actually did superbly to get across his line so quickly as Gakpo’s cross headed towards Salah.
However, he then made two major mistakes which meant that the Egyptian’s header was always set to go in the moment he put it on target.
“You’d normally be saying at this point, goalies would be struggling to cover the ground and get across goal. He gets to the goal really quickly; this section right now is amazing; it covered the goal,” he remarked.
“Now that you’ve covered the goal and moved all of your weight there, you have two points. You need to position yourself as soon as Salah heads the ball; your hands must be high rather than low. Whether it’s a header or volley, you need to elevate your hands to give yourself a chance because, nine times out of ten, the ball will be heading high into the goal. But once more, pay attention to how you transfer weight—shoulders behind the knees, sinking onto your heels, low hand position—because you will only be able to perform one action.
“We’re not goalie-bashing here, we’re talking about detail. But he’ll be really disappointed in that goal, because he’s been a top, top performer for them this year, and I think because he’s transferred across the goal, he’s expecting to save it, but he’s never given himself a chance.”

Like Tottenham, Vicario has had a really mixed year in the Premier League. Few would have known about the Italian prior to signing a contract last summer to take Hugo Lloris’ place. Vicario had a fantastic start to the season as Spurs helped to lead the league in scoring. Tottenham seemed to have made a brilliant business decision in acquiring the 27-year-old for a meager £17 million. However, it’s possible that his shortcomings have come to light in recent months.Vicario doesn’t seem to be the most powerful set-piece player. Furthermore, it is evident that he has some of the responsibility for the fact that he has failed to record a clean sheet in his previous eight games. Watson’s evaluation demonstrates that he performs a great deal of excellent work. But obviously, he’s still a work in progress at this point.
