‘It’s a worry’: Tim Sherwood says £42m Tottenham star plays in a ‘desperate’ way after NLD defeat
Tottenham Hotspur fans have every right to be raging after what they witnessed unfold on Sunday.
It’s unbelievable that Ange Postecoglou had two weeks to get ready for the Arsenal match and they were behind 3-0 at the break.
Even worse, Tottenham’s problems this season have been rather obvious. They are unable to defend from a corner!
However, Arsenal’s chances of winning the game were effectively eliminated when two of their goals came from corners.
Although Son Heung-min and Cristian Romero might have revived the match after halftime, the north London derby was actually lost in the first forty-five minutes.
It’s frustrating for the fans because they have now provided Arsenal with a boost in their Premier League title hunt, whilst also damaging their own Champions League challenge.
Tim Sherwood told Premier League Productions on April 29, 24 at 5:25 p.m., that Spurs could have lost by “four or five” goals if David Raya hadn’t miss-kicked the ball right at Romero, who was rushing.
Acting like a striker, Tottenham’s £42 million acquisition startled many by being positioned so high up the pitch. In the end, though, it paid off as he distracted the Arsenal player.
However, Sherwood also emphasized Romero’s style and how it is a “worry” because he occasionally plays “desperate” material.
Cristian Romero’s form
“It’s a worry, to me,” said Sherwood about how Romero is playing.
It’s spontaneous. It’s desperate stuff. Yes, that does come off there (during the north London derby) a few times. However, it lacks a plan. Now that we are behind 3-0, he will do anything he pleases. They lose by a score of four or five if Raya, the goalie, doesn’t make that error. Raya gives over the ball, which uplifts the Tottenham players and the supporters.
There, he (Romero) decided to take charge. That’s the only latitude Ange grants these players. Adore it or detest it. His character appeals to me. It can explode at times. Although I wouldn’t put all my trust in him, he seems like one of the better players.
Will Tottenham bounce back?
Spurs have no room to relocate here. They either dramatically crash or rebound.
Following a brief respite, the club’s games will again come thick and fast, starting on Thursday night with another London derby against Chelsea.
Postecoglou’s performance in London derbies this season speaks for itself, thus you don’t want to be seen losing another one as it will only enrage the supporters further.
Additionally, the fact that Unai Emery’s team leads by seven points with two games remaining and Tottenham has two games in hand suggests that Villa Park will host Champions League action.
