As rumors regarding the status of the race began to circulate, Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin gave reporters an update on Saturday regarding Fields and Wilson’s positions going into training.

“You know, Wilson is leading the team right now in the early phases of development. Tomlin stated, “I believe that his body of work as a whole deserves that.

After having a poor 2022 season, Wilson rebounded in ’23, tossing 26 touchdowns against just 8 interceptions in 15 games.

“We’re very happy to have Justin too,” Tomlin continued. “And obviously during the course of team development training camp and the preseason, he’ll be given an opportunity to compete.”

In contrast, Fields completed 13 games in 2023 with 16 touchdown passes and nine interceptions.
