Here’s what Giants offered Patriots to move up for Drake Maye in NFL draft
In order to select UNC quarterback Drake Maye in the first round of the NFL draft, general manager of the New York Giants Joe Schoen made his strongest argument. It was simply insufficient.
The Giants and Minnesota Vikings made offers to the New England Patriots for the third pick, but the team declined, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. A second first-round pick was included in the Giants’ deal.
The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants did make offers to the New England Patriots for the No. 3 pick to take Maye Drake. With the Vikings in mind for selection exchanges, Minnesota made an offer earlier this week that included the Nos. 11 and 23 picks as well as their 2025 first-round pick. With New England running out of time, Minnesota had to make this offer. In the meantime, the Giants ultimately included their 2025 first-round selection in their offer to jump from sixth to third place.
In the end, Schoen was unable to find a taker for a trade up the draft board and selected LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers ahead of Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who was selected by the Vikings at No. 10 and was the next-best quarterback available. The Giants dropped off the board in the first round, thus they missed the chance to select one of the elite quarterbacks. three selections: Maye (Patriots), Jayden Daniels (Washington Commanders), and Caleb Williams (Chicago Bears).
After Maye was gone, it was clear that general manager Joe Schoen truly had a “Maye or nobody” quarterback strategy at the top of this selection. Because he passed on McCarthy at No. 6 in addition to not trading up to the fourth or fifth spot for him.
