One of top high school prospects originally pledged to Kentucky has committed to Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — One of Arkansas’ top targets for the 2024 class committed to the Razorbacks and John Calipari on Monday, according to 24/7 High School Hoops. Karter Knox, a composite 5-star, is the No. 19 overall player in the country.
After former Kentucky head coach John Calipari formally accepted the Razorbacks coaching position, Knox became interested in Arkansas. On March 9, the 6-foot-5, 225-pound forward made his initial commitment to the Wildcats due to Calipari’s history of placing players in the NBA.
Knox averaged 23 points, six rebounds, three assists, and one steal a game while playing for Overtime Elite this season. This season, the McDonald’s All-American shot 34% from three and 44% from the field. He shoots 63% in free rows, which is his one area of weakness.
Getting Knox is a huge boost, especially since Arkansas needs to replace its whole team in a single recruiting cycle due to a roster makeover. Knox joins Zvonimir Ivisic, a former center for the Wildcats who signed last week..
Calipari mentioned during his introductory press conference that taking the Arkansas job in 2007 meant leaving his Memphis Tigers players, which made him uncomfortable taking the job. Now, the NCAA rules have changed help facilitate athletes’ relocation with the coaches they have already committed to.
“I need to assemble a roster,” Calipari declared. “I just had the team meeting. Three guys were present, and they were all within the gateway. All I want to say is that I’m not that man with the magic wand; we have work to do. That isn’t my identity. I’m the regular grinder that shows up.”
In a lighthearted manner, Calipari evaluated the Arkansas roster at his first press conference.
Calipari remarked, “I met with the team, and there is no team.” “We gotta get a roster together.”
