Following the dismissal of second-year head coach Kenny Payne back on Mar. 13, Clark entered the portal nine days later, becoming the sixth of 11 Cardinals to opt to transfer this offseason. Because of the heavy influx of portal defections, Louisville has zero scholarship returners for the 2024-25 season.
Playing in 29 of Louisville’s 32 games with 28 starts, Clark was one of four players to start at least 20 games for the Cardinals during the 2023-24 season. He wound up finishing as the Cardinals’ leading scorer, averaging 13.2 points per game on a 41.2 field goal percentage and 35.3 three-point percentage. Clark also tallied 3.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, and led Louisville in made three-point field goals with 47.
Clark joined Louisville last offseason after spending his true freshman season at Illinois. Playing in their first 13 games of the 2022-23 season with 12 starts, he averaged 7.0 points, 3.7 assists and 2.1 assists per game, while shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 33.3 percent on three-point attempts.
Midway through that season, Clark announced that he would be stepping away from basketball due to “personal reasons.” He would not play another game for the Fighting Illini, and entered the portal following the end of the season.
With Louisville in line to return just walk-on guard Hercy Miller from last season, new head coach Pat Kelsey and his staff have hit the ground running out on the recruiting trail. Over the last five days, the Cardinals have landed transfer commitments from Reyne Smith and James Scott – both of whom played for Kelsey at Charleston – as well as former James Madison star and 2024 Sun Belt Player of the Year Terrence Edwards Jr.
