‘It’s weird’… Peter Grant says it’s very strange that one Celtic player is being heavily criticised this season

The criticism levied towards Celtic and Brendan Rodgers for their performances and collapse in the league is warranted. Let’s not beat about the bush.

It is unacceptable to have given up such a strong advantage over the previous few months in such a flimsy manner.

Of course, some of the blame must fall on the players, but Peter Grant feels that one player in particular is receiving unfair criticism, and the former Celtic great is taken aback by how much of the limelight Greg Taylor has taken.

Though I understand that Bernabei is receiving a lot of criticism for the position that Greg plays and how effectively he plays it, I don’t necessarily mean with that, but it was a blow.

“Let’s not play favorites; this isn’t a winning team, so it will be interesting to see how they react.”

The Greg Taylor conundrum

Look, I get it. I understand that Greg Taylor is not everyone’s cup of tea and I also get that the Scotland fullback has his weaknesses.

However, the fact remains that when he is out of the team, Celtic are far weaker without him. That fact has been highlighted with the recent performances of Alexandro Bernabei.

Now I get that that could suggest that Taylor is the best option in a position where Celtic are really weak in quality, but there’s no denying that the 25-year-old has played a significant role in Celtic’s victories over the previous 2.5 seasons.

That being said, Celtic needs to improve that aspect of the squad. If only to foster healthy rivalry for that team slot, more quality is needed.

It’s unclear whether that will occur in the summer because everything hinges on Celtic’s ability to successfully defend the championship and Brendan Rodgers’ ability to continue as manager.
