Alabama football makes 2 intriguing hires to fill offensive coordinator role

  The Alabama football team has had a busy offseason in terms of new hires. First, head coach Nick Saban opted to step down following the season, necessitating the hiring of a new coach for the Crimson Tide.After acquiring Kalen DeBoer from the Washington football team, Alabama’s offensive coordinator position has been handled by the Crimson Tide.

To assist in directing the offense, Alabama has added two interesting players. Nick Sheridan and JaMarcus Shephard will be joining the Crimson Tide. Shephard will serve as the wide receivers coach, associate head coach, and co-offensive coordinator, while Sheridan will serve as the official offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer stated, “We are thrilled to have Nick and JaMarcus join us at Alabama. They are both fantastic coaches,” according to a rolltide.com article. They understand our goals on that side of the football field and have familiarity with our offense. At every stage of their careers, they have proved themselves to be outstanding instructors and recruiters, bringing a great deal of passion and energy to their work.

Kalen DeBoer has already worked with both of these instructors. From 2022 to 2023, JaMarcus Shephard worked as an assistant head coach and wide receiver coach for the Washington Huskies.

Nick Sheridan was also on the staff last year at Washington as he was the tight ends coach. He has also worked with DeBoer at Indiana, and he was the offensive coordinator for two years for the Hoosiers. It’s good for DeBoer and Alabama to get guys that the head coach is familiar with.

“It is a tremendous opportunity to join Coach DeBoer at Alabama,” Sheridan said. “I look forward to working with this offensive staff to develop a plan each week to put our team in a position to be successful. There is an unmatched legacy at Alabama, and I understand the importance of upholding that standard while developing our players.

It’s pretty cool that Sheridan and DeBoer were together at Indiana and Washington before teaming up with the Alabama football team. They have come a long way since they were coaching the Hoosiers.
