Agent says ‘it’s a pity’ his player chose to join Tottenham ahead of Champions League giants
Tottenham Hotspur defender Radu Dragusin has enjoyed a decent start to life at Spurs following his January move to N17.
The 22-year-old defender is getting some Premier League cameos off the bench at Tottenham thanks to Ange Postecoglou’s gradual introduction to the game.
Although Spurs famously defeated Bayern Munich to sign Dragusin, the midfielder was being pursued by other reigning champions as well.
The Romanian international was also being pursued by Napoli, and Dragusin’s agent has now disclosed that his personal preference was for the player to sign with them.
Quotes from a recent interview with Florin Manea by Radio CRC were published by Tuttojuve. “It’s unfortunate,” the agent remarked, that Dragusin didn’t decide to relocate to the south of Italy.
Manea also described Napoli owner Aurelio de Laurentiis as a “very kind” individual and hopes to deal with him again in future.
Manea stated, “De Laurentiis was prepared to seal the deal; he was there with the offer; they were nearly equal with the others, but it wasn’t a money issue.”
Had that been the case, he would have accepted Bayern’s higher offer. With this feeling in mind, Dragusin made the decision to visit Tottenham.
I had a positive impression of Mr. De Laurentiis since he was so courteous. My idol is Maradona, and my heart belongs to Napoli.
“In the future, I hope to work with Napoli on a transaction. I’m a little bit of a Napoli fan, so it’s unfortunate that things didn’t work out this way, but it wasn’t a horrible offer from them.
Radu Dragusin wanted Tottenham ahead of Bayern Munich and Napoli
Manea’s public remarks about his personal preference and his regret in not joining Napoli will likely not go over well with Tottenham supporters, but they do demonstrate Dragusin’s tenacity in wanting to play for Spurs.
The 22-year-old rejected offers to two current league champions—both of whom are in the round of 16 of the Champions League—because he had such a strong belief in Tottenham.
That speaks much about the Spurs’ appeal and the direction Ange Postecoglou is leading them in.
