Michael Jordan’s NBA Finals Sneakers Fetch Record-Breaking Auction Sale Price
A set of six of Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan’s NBA Finals-worn shoes broke a global auction sale record on Friday.
“The Dynasty Collection” sold for $8,032,800, which is a new record for game-worn shoes, according to Sotheby’s.
The collection of six shoes included one shoe from each of the years in which Jordan and the Bulls won the NBA title: Air Jordan VI (1991), Air Jordan VII (1992), Air Jordan VIII (1993), Air Jordan XI (1996), Air Jordan XII (1997) and Air Jordan XIV (1998). Jordan was named NBA Finals MVP title each of those years.
The buyer’s identity remains undisclosed.
Tim Halland, the former public relations director for the Bulls, had the forethought to inquire if Jordan would gift the team a shoe from the 1991 NBA Finals if the Bulls won the series, which is how the collection came to be. Jordan continued to do this during the Bulls’ dynasty.
The Air Jordan XIII Breds that Jordan wore in Game 2 of the 1998 Finals set a new auction record last year when they brought in $2,238,000. For a single pair of shoes, this is still the highest sale price ever.
