BREAKING: Detroit Lions Lose All-Pro For San Francisco 49ers Matchup

The Detroit Lions are about to play in the biggest game for their franchise in the last three decades.  On Sunday the Lions will play the San Francisco 49ers for a right to go to the Super Bowl.  Obviously, this late in the season injuries will play a role for all four teams left standing.

Today, news surfaced that the Lions will be without one all-pro they were hoping to get something out of.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Twitter/X:

According to a source, Zach Ertz will not be activated from the practice squad by the #Lions for Sunday’s NFC championship game. Ertz put in a lot of effort this week to prepare, but the team will hold him out.

Zach Ertz, an experienced tight end, was added to the practice squad by the Lions just a few days prior to the NFC Championship Game.Quarterback Jared Goff stated that Ertz ought to have been able to participate on Sunday.

Ertz has already shown that he comprehends the offensive strategy used by the Lions, and his teammates are impressed with how well he understands:

Goff remarked, “He’s picked it up extremely fast.” He has, in fact. Very outstanding, not that you didn’t anticipate that from a man with his background and experience. I’ve known him intermittently throughout the years, and from what I’ve heard, he’s incredibly smart and has a great memory. This week, he’s performed exceptionally well. It has gone well.

Ertz asked for and got his release from the Cardinals to join with a contender following his seven starts as a starter in the regular season. If the Lions make it to the Super Bowl, a switch to the active roster might still be in the works.
