Breaking:Alabama football: Kalen DeBoer score another portal win with ex-Washington weapon

Another one for Alabama.

Wide receiver Germie Bernard, who follows former Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer to the SEC program, has committed to play for Alabama football, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN. Bernard is another Washington Huskies football player coming to Tuscaloosa.

Bernard visited with Alabama football players before deciding to enroll at Alabama. Bernard’s decision to transfer to Alabama, which is still in the early phases of the post-Nick Saban era, must have been greatly influenced by DeBoer’s presence in the program.

Bernard spent just one season with the Huskies, appearing in 14 games in 2023 and collecting 462 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 34 receptions before testing the waters of college football’s transfer portal. He also saw action for the Huskies’ special teams, coming away with 233 kick return yards and 43 punt return yards. With Alabama football, which was unable to win the College Football Playoff last season, Bernard might be in line for a larger offensive role. Alabama made it to the College Football Playoff semifinals in head coach Nick Saban’s final season with the Crimson Tide, but they were defeated by the Michigan Wolverines at the Rose Bowl.

Bernard received offers from several prestigious universities, including the Arizona State Sun Devils, Miami Hurricanes, Michigan Wolverines, and Nebraska Cornhuskers, before deciding to play for the Spartans.
