Old Alabama QB graphic goes viral after Jalen Hurts, Eagles get eliminated
The NFL quarterbacks from Alabama have not had a good season. After Jalen Hurts’ Philadelphia Eagles, a former member of the Crimson Tide, were ousted from the playoffs on Monday, an old article extolling their virtues went viral.
Hurts was the only quarterback from Alabama still standing at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, before his Eagles were destroyed 32–9 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Following the Eagles’ defeat to end Wild Card Weekend, fans on X brought back to life a Bleacher Report image from April of the previous year, which featured four quarterbacks from Alabama: Hurts, Mac Jones, Tua Tagovailoa, and Bryce Young.
The caption for the post said, “Bama QB room dominating the NFL.”
Fans on X had a field day clowning the post for turning out to be wildly inaccurate.
The post was uploaded during the 2023 NFL Draft after Young was selected by the Panthers with the first overall pick.
During that time, Hurts was coming off a Super Bowl appearance. Tagovailoa was recovering from an injury-riddled season but still managed to get an MVP vote. Jones was slated for a bounce-back third season after a sophomore slump.
Alabama QBs weren’t exactly “dominating” but they at least had four starters in the NFL coming into the season. However, the year could not have gone worse for all four Crimson Tide alumni.
In a season that saw the dismissal of Young’s head coach and general manager, CJ Stroud, the second overall choice, has outperformed Young by a wide margin.
Hurts’ Eagles started the season 10-1 before experiencing one of the biggest midseason collapses in recent memory.
After Tagovailoa asked Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback who eliminated him from the playoffs, for his jersey on Saturday, the video went viral. It wasn’t even the Dolphins quarterback’s jersey.
In a season when Jones could have been caught in the heart of a cold war between Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft, he was benched for Bailey Zappe.
Jalen Milroe, the quarterback for Alabama right now, may have made the right choice by deciding to finish his education.
