‘Can’t speak highly enough’: Ange Postecoglou says two Tottenham players were amazing vs Man United yesterday

Ange Postecoglou had lauded Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven after their return to the Tottenham Hotspur side on Sunday.

Tottenham welcomed their defensive duo back as the pair played alongside each other for the first time since early November.

Of course, Micky van de Ven has been ruled out with a hamstring injury while Cristian Romero was banished for three games following his red card against Chelsea.

The Argentine then sustained a hamstring injury during last month’s 2-1 victory over Everton. Romero, though, made an early comeback yesterday and helped Tottenham draw 2-2 with Manchester United.

It’s reasonable to suggest that Van de Ven and the Argentine appeared rusty in the first half, with Romero receiving flak for his defense of United’s opening goal.

After extended periods on the sidelines, the pair returned to the game at a faster speed, and they showed enormous improvement in the second half.And his center-back combination undoubtedly impressed Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou amazed by Romero and Van de Ven

Speaking to Spurs Play after his side’s 2-2 draw at Old Trafford, Postecoglou was asked about Van de Ven’s fitness after he was forced off with cramp in the 89th minute.

“Yeah, cramp,” Postecoglou replied. “Van de Ven gave everything he had. Romero and him.

“I can’t speak highly enough of them to come in with literally a week’s training and perform like that here.”

In the first half, it was evident that Van de Ven had not played a single minute of first-team football since early November.However, the Dutchman got more comfortable with the game and made a few crucial challenges in the second half.

Romero was even more impressive in the second half, setting Oliver Skipp free with a brilliant pass across the middle of the pitch just before Bentancur’s equalizer.

Having the two back is a significant help for Postecoglou, and Spurs haven’t lost a Premier League game when they’ve started together following yesterday’s tie.
