Timo Werner has moved to play down expectations over his goal threat for Tottenham, saying scoring is no longer the biggest part of his game and that he can thrive at Spurs without being “the main man” up front.
The former Chelsea striker contributed to Ange Postecoglou’s side’s two comeback victories to draw 2-2 against Manchester United on Sunday, marking his comeback to English football.
After Marcus Rashford restored United’s lead and Richarlison’s header negated Rasmus Hojlund’s early goal, the German’s assist set up Rodrigo Bentancur to score the second equalizer for the visitors.
Werner, unfortunately, missed the mark on four attempts, despite having a strong opportunity in the first half, which brought back memories of his careless finishing during his two seasons at Chelsea.
During his initial stint at RB Leipzig, Werner scored 93 goals in 157 appearances, making him one of Europe’s most dangerous strikers. However, he struggled to hit the back of the net in west London, and in 2022, he returned to his previous club with just 10 Premier League goals.

At the end of the season, Spurs have the option to permanently acquire Werner from Leipzig for approximately £15 million.
