Dan Lanning sends strong message about Alabama head coaching vacancy
Dan Lanning was viewed by many as the favorite to become the next head coach at Alabama after Nick Saban retired, but that is not going to happen.
Lanning shared a video on social media Thursday in which he declared that he is not leaving Oregon. The clip featured a team meeting where Lanning was speaking to Ducks players about accomplishing their goals by “worrying about what’s right in front of you.” The script over the video sent a very strong message and read as follows:
“If you’re scared your coach is leaving … then come play for us … the Ducks aren’t going anywhere … and I’m not leaving.”

There were rumors that the 37-year-old was in Tuscaloosa already, and oddsmakers had him as the clear favorite to succeed Saban.
Regarding the reports that he could quit Oregon back in November, Lanning responded with a very powerful statement. That was before anyone could have predicted that the Alabama position would open up, but Lanning stands by his statement.
Lanning has spent the last two seasons as Oregon’s head coach. He has a 22-5 overall record and won by double digits in both seasons.
Lanning was seen as a natural choice for Alabama because he is from Missouri and has SEC experience. Fans of the Crimson Tide will now need to direct their attention elsewhere.
