‘The manager’: Timo Werner on why he snubbed other Premier League clubs for Tottenham Hotspurs
Tottenham confirmed the signing of German forward Timo Werner on Tuesday night after he completed his medical.
Tottenham forward Timo Werner said that when he received a call from Ange Postecoglou, he knew the club was interested in him and that’s when he made up his mind. The former Chelsea striker was linked to Manchester United, but he chose to go to north London.
With club captain Son Heung-min absent for the whole Asian Cup in January, Werner will have an opportunity to establish himself and potentially make an immediate impression. Speaking with their Australian boss, he said on the club’s website, made things easier for him.
Werner said: “A lot of things attracted me here – first of all, the talk with the manager.
“I thought it was a really good talk, he gave me straight away the feeling that I need to join a club, what I want to feel when you talk to a manager and also the tactics and the style, how he wants to play, how he lets the team
Have fun. I immediately felt that it was a fantastic fit for me.
“The stadium itself is something amazing to play at every game, and our team has some really talented players, in my opinion. I found it all to be quite fascinating.”
The German striker has only made two starts in the Bundesliga for RB Leipzig; nevertheless, his transfer to Tottenham offers him a new opportunity to attempt and regain his place in the Germany squad for the Euros.
In the summer, Spurs can potentially choose to make the agreement permanent for about £15,000,000.
