“Pointless” – Club slammed for trying to sign Tottenham player, can’t match Spurs demands
Over the past few days, reports in Brazil claimed that Flamengo are interested in signing Emerson Royal from Tottenham Hotspur.
According to Premier League Brasil, Spurs made a significant demand during possible negotiations, discouraging Rio de Janeiro’s approach to sign the player.
The attempt caused quite a stir in the community media, and S1Live journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira offered some insightful commentary on the whole thing.
According to Torcedores, Flamengo has no financial means to recruit a player who is playing regularly for Tottenham, so it makes no sense for the team to pursue Royal.
“They made an enquiry to Emerson Royal, it wasn’t an offer. It’s a pointless enquiry. The guy is playing as a starter at Tottenham. Regardless of his performances under Diniz, that doesn’t mean he’s always going to be terrible. He’s in the Premier League and should be able to play at that level.
However, it’s certain that Flamengo won’t select a player who has started for Tottenham. I’m not sure why they asked that particular question.
If AC Milan decides to pursue the deal in the upcoming weeks, it appears more likely that they are interested in Royal as well, according to the first PL Brasil story.
After starting each of Tottenham’s past three Premier League games, the Brazilian has made 15 appearances for the team this season, thus it makes reasonable that Spurs would have to grant his desire to depart in the midst of the season.
