‘Don’t rate him’… Gabriel Agbonlahor says Tottenham star is League Two level right now
Gabriel Agbonlahor has slammed Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison and claims he’d be ‘playing in League Two if he wasn’t Brazilian’.
Richarlison has enjoyed a decent run of form for Spurs of late, having netted five goals in his last five Premier League appearances.
It follows a challenging beginning to life under Ange Postecoglou, in which the Brazilian eventually lost his spot on the team to Heung-Min Son.
However, since making a comeback from a groin injury, the 26-year-old has performed admirably, and Son has moved to the left side.
Even though Tottenham defeated Burnley 1-0 in the FA Cup on Friday, the former Everton striker didn’t have the best of nights.
Throughout the game, Richarlison lost a few good opportunities due to his slow speed.
Furthermore, it doesn’t seem like his recent strong performance is enough to appease Gabriel Agbonlahor, one of his detractors.
Agbonlahor says Richarlison is ‘League Two’ level
Speaking to talkSPORT, Agbonlahor criticized Richarlison for his performance on Friday night against Burnley.
The former Aston Villa captain added, “I turned it off after 60 minutes because it was awful. I was watching the game and thinking, ‘I’m wasting my evening, I could be watching a new series on Netflix.'”
“Richarlison lacks all of the necessary skills to control the ball, hold it up, play link-up well, run in behind defenses because he isn’t fast enough, and finish.”
“I don’t rate him at all; if he weren’t Brazilian, he’d be playing in League Two.”
“I don’t blame Ange; Timo Werner will be a better option than Richarlison, and it’s only a six-month loan,” he continued.
Considering Richarlison’s recent improvement in form, this feels like a very harsh statement from Agbonlahor.
It’s a bit of a stretch to call the Spurs standout a League Two player as well.
Richarlison was a standout player at Goodison Park, and Spurs were willing to pay £60 million to get him for that reason.
He only managed two Premier League goals for Spurs last season, so things haven’t quite gone as planned.
However, Spurs should take heart from his recent performance as he appears to be settling in under Ange Postecoglou.
