Ben Davies sustained a hamstring injury late in our 1-0 victory over Burnley on Friday night in the FA Cup third round, according to Ange Postecoglou.

The center back looked to be limping as the match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was far into injury time. By then, we had made all five of our replacements, and Pedro Porro’s incredible goal had propelled us into the fourth round. Ben continued to play until the very end.

Speaking on our Review Show, Ange told us: “Unfortunately, it looks like Ben’s done his hamstring tonight, which

is even more devastating for us, as Ben and Emerson Royal have shown themselves to be true fighters for us over the past three weeks.

When asked if we had suffered any more injuries during the news conference after the game, Ange replied, “Yeah, Ben Davies looks like he’s done his hamstring.” Gio Lo Celso appears to have some tightness, but hopefully nothing major, and he will be absent.

Good news: Micky van van Ven was back in the matchday squad following his hamstring injury, and Ryan Sessegnon made his first appearance since February of last year by coming off the bench in the second half.

Tottenham can afford to lose Dier – Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham, asserts that his team can afford to lose England defender Eric Dier, who has been connected to a transfer to Bayern Munich.

Although Dier, 29, has received 49 England caps, he has had difficulty breaking into Tottenham’s starting lineup this year.

According to German reports, he is almost certain to join the Bundesliga winners.

Dier was injured, according to Postecoglou, who told ITV he knew “absolutely zero” about a transfer. Dier missed Spurs’ 1-0 FA Cup victory against Burnley.

He was then asked about that in a heated news conference and when questioned further by a journalist, the Australian added: “He pulled up sore and didn’t train yesterday.

“It’s a separate issue mate, do not question my integrity. When I say he’s injured, he’s injured. He didn’t train yesterday, ask him.

It has no connection to anything else. It’s true that he is hurt; I didn’t make that up when you asked. It’s simple for me to declare that he isn’t selected if he hadn’t been hurt.

“As far as other events go, nothing that I’ve heard or seen is on my radar. I’m sure I’ll find out if there’s anything. I guess I’ve been thinking about the game and the guys that are available for the past 24 hours.”

Dier would reunite with Harry Kane, the record-setting goal scorer for Tottenham, if he were to sign with Bayern Munich. Kane arrived in the Bundesliga in August after leaving in a deal costing an initial £86.4 million and has scored 25 goals in 22 appearances.

Dier left Portuguese team Sporting Lisbon in 2014 to sign a £4 million contract with Tottenham, and he has since made 274 Premier League appearances for the Spurs.

Despite the injuries to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, who was not used as a replacement against Burnley on his first appearance back in the starting lineup since suffering a hamstring injury in the 4-1 loss to Chelsea on November 6, he has only started one league game this season.

Complete-back Ben Davies, who started the game against Burnley in a central role, spent the last part of the game dealing with a hamstring problem, according to Postecoglou.

Asked if he could afford to lose Dier after Davies’ injury, Postecoglou replied “yes”.

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson told BBC Radio 5 Live: “It’s massive for him but you can quite clearly see he’s not part of Ange’s plans.

“You look at the way he [Postecoglou] has played this season, you look at the injuries he’s had, whether Cristian

Romero has been sidelined or hurt, and Micky van de Ven has also had injuries. Even if those two have been absent, Eric Dier hasn’t made sense. He is set to start as a center-half for four full-backs.

“There is a message to be learned if Eric Dier is unable to join that team. It’s not too horrible if you can relocate to Bayern Munich at this point.”

The next game for Tottenham, which is now fifth in the Premier League, is an away match against Manchester United on January 14.

With a game remaining, Bayern Munich is four points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga standings but still has a chance to win the title for the twelfth time in a row.
