Tottenham ‘actively pursuing’ deal to reunite Ange Postecoglou with £25m outcast
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is assessing options to strengthen Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
Spurs are reportedly boosting up their efforts to sign Jota, the Al-Ittihad renegade. The Portuguese winger was under Ange Postecoglou at Celtic for the previous season, and the Spurs manager is reportedly eager to bring him to North London.
Jota was one of the many athletes who were lured to the Saudi Pro League in the summer. Although reigning champions Al-Ittihad paid a whopping £25 million to oust him from Scotland, the move has turned out to be disastrous.
Jota’s chances of playing in the Saudi Pro League were restricted to the Asian Champions League due to squad limitations that prevented him from being included in Al-Ittihad’s 25-man roster. The 24-year-old has made four appearances so far and scored one goal.
According to HITC Football, Jota is ‘anxious’ to leave the Middle East and reboot his career in Europe, while Al-Ittihad would welcome the chance to shift him from the wage bill.
Even the possibility of the Saudi champions ripping up his contract and letting him walk for free has been floated. According to reports, Spurs and Al-Ittihad are deep in negotiations as Postecoglou attempts to get back together with the former Hoops player.
During his two years at Celtic Park, Jota made 83 appearances and scored 28 goals, mostly on loan before joining on a permanent basis. Last season, the wide player scored 15 goals in all competitions.

Postecoglou may gain from having another adaptable striker at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as leading scorer and captain Son Heung-min is expected to miss many weeks due to travel to compete for South Korea in the Asian Cup.
Thankfully for the north Londoners, Richarlison has finally found form in white, notching five goals in as many games to send his side into 2024 on a high. The wheels are already turning for Spurs in the January transfer window, with Sergio Reguilon returning from a loan spell at Manchester United and Hugo Lloris joining Los Angeles FC.
