“Should not be doing that”, “annoyed with him” – Pundit brutally slams Spurs star for his actions in recent victory

Former West Ham United striker turned pundit, Frank McAvennie, has voiced strong criticism against Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario for his conduct during Spurs’ recent commanding 4-1 victory against Newcastle United.

He expressed his belief that Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou would not have been pleased with Vicario’s actions during the match.

Spurs beat the Magpies 4-1 in a rather convincing manner earlier this month. Destiny Udogie opened the scoring and Richarlison scored a brace before Heung-min Son scoring a penalty towards the end of the game to seal the win.

However, their Italian goalkeeper turned into a discussion topic after an incident after the match.

Vicario was observed making faces at Callum Wilson after he recovered a ball that was intended to be crossed.

Following the match, Vicario and Wilson got into a heated argument, and the Newcastle player called out the Tottenham goalie for acting in a disrespectful manner.

Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie denounced Vicario’s behavior, saying that players of such kind hurt the team’s chances of winning.

He emphasized the value of treating people with respect on the pitch and hypothesised that Postecoglou would have probably spoken with Vicario about the matter after the game.

He stated the following to Football Insider:

“There’s a method to winning video games. However, it is not what Vicario ought to be doing in the game. Nothing will be gained by Tottenham. Even though the goalie was acting with complete disrespect, he persisted in giving it his best.

“I’m sure Ange straightened him out afterwards; he would have been irritated with him and done something after the game if that’s what they have to do to defeat Newcastle. He would like to go above and beyond that.
