Former Leeds United striker Matt Smith is enjoying the season of his career at Salford City while overtaking the tally he set at the Championship giants a decade ago.

Smith scored his 13th goal of 2023–24—and his 14th goal overall—in Saturday’s League Two match against Mansfield Town with a signature powerful header. Thus, this is the only more the seasoned targetman needs to have his finest season to date. Given that the Halloween pumpkins are still rotting on the doorway, it’s safe to assume he has plenty of time on his side.
The Mirror quoted Smith as saying, “I always look back on my time at Leeds with fond memories.” Smith landed to Elland Road at the height of Massimo Cellino’s outrageousness.
“I was probably there during one of the most tumultuous periods in the club’s recent past. I felt like I had been there for a lot longer than the season since there was so much going on. I left in somewhat unusual circumstances. Compared to a season, there are a lot more stories!
Smith is definitely penning a few more chapters at Salford to ensure that his story ends well.

Smith told The Mirror, “I always look back on my time at Leeds with fond memories.” Smith arrived at Elland Road during the outrageous Massimo Cellino period.
“I was there most likely at one of the most turbulent times in the club’s recent history. Because so much was going on, I had the impression that I had been there for much longer than the actual season. I departed under quite peculiar circumstances. There are much more stories than there are in a season!
At Salford, Smith is undoubtedly writing a few extra chapters in an effort to make sure his tale has a happy conclusion.
