Ange Postecoglou suggests £51m striker is one of the only players who could’ve replaced Harry Kane at Tottenham
Tottenham finally sold Harry Kane this summer after years of speculation about the striker’s future.
The summer saw Spurs’ talisman move from North London to Munich, and many were left wondering how Tottenham would replace the England captain.
Numerous players were mentioned as possible Kane substitutes by Spurs, but no one could have anticipated what the team would do next.
In fact, Spurs chose to use Heung-Min Son as a striker this season rather than signing a straight Kane successor, to excellent result.
Ange Postecoglou discussed his thought process for replacing Kane in an interview with TNT Sports. He conceded that it was a tough challenge since, well, not many strikers can perform the same feats as Kane.
Postecoglou did mention one player who might have taken Kane’s place: Erling Haaland. However, as we all know, it would be hard for any team in the world, let alone Tottenham, to pry the £51 million Norwegian out of Manchester City.

Postecoglou spoke about the Kane situation and how Spurs could’ve replaced him.
“You try to think of solutions and the one thing I knew was impossible to do was to replace Harry. There is no other Harry Kane. You can give me £200m and unless you’re going to go and get Erling (Haaland), there aren’t many of those around. It’s impossible, so then your head goes ‘what solutions exist?’” Postecoglou said.

Postecoglou is entirely correct; there aren’t many strikers available who can compete with Harry Kane, and none that Tottenham can afford.
Although players like Robert Lewandowski, Kylian Mbappe, and Erling Haaland may certainly succeed, Spurs were never in a position to sign any of those players.
Although Postecoglou had a bad hand here, he made a great move by putting Son as a Kane substitute up front.
It must be mentioned that Postecoglou has handled this circumstance quite skillfully.
