‘I guarantee…’: Postecoglou appears to aim a sly dig at Arteta after Chelsea defeat
Tottenham Hotspur recently crashed to a 4-1 defeat against London rivals Chelsea in the Premier League.
Spurs’ perfect start to the Premier League season was ruined by the Blues’ defeat, and they will now want to recover well in their next game.
Few would have predicted them to lose 4-1 against Chelsea, who have had a comparatively weak start to the season, given their recent outstanding play.
But Spurs paid a heavy price for their lack of control, as players like Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were sent out, leaving them down to nine men.
Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham, was asked to comment on the referee’s calls during the intense match against Chelsea after the game.
The Australian manager seemed to be making a subtle jab at Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, who earlier this season lost his temper with the referees after his team’s loss to Newcastle.
Postecoglou expressed his appreciation and respect for referees while arguing that Premier League managers had to focus on running their own teams rather than challenging the qualifications of the official. He also mentioned that managers do not always need to challenge officials’ authority because it is already difficult for them to oversee games.
“Premier League managers should just manage their football clubs,” he stated (h/t Sportsbible). I have never discussed the game’s regulations with a referee, and I never will. It was ingrained in me as a child to respect officials as you get older.

We are not the appropriate group. People keep repeating this, I understand. I disagree with that. My desire is for the top officials to continuously improve their skills in officiating games. But I believe referees have it quite difficult.
Their power is simply being eroded more and more. I have a childhood fear of referees. They would resemble police officers. I guess we also respond to police officers in this day and age. I’m traditional. I’m from a different period. I adore the game’s simplicity.
Tottenham, however, is now second in the Premier League standings after losing to Chelsea, and they will be aiming to move up to the top once more in the upcoming weeks. Manchester City, the reigning champions, are atop the standings right now.
