Springboks forward Evan Roos has come under scrutiny after his yellow card in the United Rugby Championship (URC) clash against Glasgow Warriors on Friday evening.
Referee Chris Busby ejected the highly regarded Stormers back-rower from the contest in the 38th minute after he threw Glasgow’s Matt Fagerson after a ruck.
Although the Stormers had begun the season with back-to-back wins, they would experience their first loss when Glasgow won 20–9.
Roos’ yellow card
Glasgow was ahead 15–6 at the time Roos was sent off. Shortly after the Stormers man was given a yellow card, hooker Johnny Matthews scored, and shortly after that, Joseph Dweba also went to the bin.
At the ruck, Roos and Fagerson are seen squabbling. Even though the ball has already moved away, the Stormers player keeps driving Fagerson, lifting him off his feet, and throwing him to the ground.
On the social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, he has received harsh criticism for his actions, with many criticizing his impetuous choices.

Strong reaction
With Duane Vermeulen having played his last Test match for the Springboks in the Rugby World Cup final, Roos is viewed as one of the long-term candidates to fill the number eight jersey for South Africa.
In fact, he earned two caps off the bench in the build-up to the Rugby World Cup but did not make the final 33-man squad.
Many supporters have warned him that he needs to change if he wants to have a long Test career because of his yellow card against Glasgow and previous indiscretion.
“Someone needs to have a critical conversation with Evan Roos within the next three months, or he’s going to throw his international career away,” a blunt fan added on X.

However, AP Cronje commented on X, citing Jasper Wiese’s dismal discipline history from previous seasons, “If only there was an example of a successful Springbok no. 8 who was reckless and struggled with discipline in his first few seasons.”
