Spurs: Lange linked with deal for player he’s already signed once before

Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly decide to pursue a deal for a new full-back in January, and recently appointed technical director Johan Lange already knows him from a previous job in the Premier League.

A stunning start to the new season has been achieved by Ange Postecoglou’s squad, who have won six and drawn two of their first eight games. As a result, they are tied for first place in the standings and level on points with rival Arsenal, the only other unbeaten team in the division.
Son Heung-Min, James Maddison, and Dejan Kulusevski are just a few of the Lilywhites’ star players who are currently serving their countries as international representatives. This break in domestic play will have allowed club executives to begin considering their transfer options for the upcoming season.
The right-back for Aston Villa, Matty Cash, has made a total of 109 appearances for Unai Emery’s team since signing a contract with the club in 2020 from Nottingham Forest (Cash statistics via Transfermarkt). He is one of the players that the N17 hierarchy may be interested in signing.

Matty Cash transfer update
Given his relationship with Lange, Spurs have reportedly been identified as a team that could make a surprise move for the player in January, according to GiveMeSport, who provided a transfer update on Matty Cash:
“The daring right-back from Aston Villa, who has excelled thus far in his three-year stay at Villa Park, is another player Lange should consider. Cash excels at advancing to support assaults, which may fit with the philosophy of the new Spurs manager, who places a high value on the full-backs.
“There are two senior options when it comes to the right-back position for Tottenham – Emerson Royal and Pedro Porro – but with both players having struggles at various stages in their respective Spurs careers, there is always room to upgrade.
“Royal finds himself as the back-up option in the early stages of the season, meaning the Brazilian could seek a new challenge in the near future and this would open up a position for a right-back to come in and Cash could be a very solid option.”
What is Matty Cash’s salary?
If Cash were to ever sign a contract with Tottenham, it would be a huge victory for Postecoglou and Daniel Levy. Cash presently earns £80k per week in the Midlands, which he has more than earned over his three years at the club (Aston Villa salary).
