‘Special’: Younes Kaboul says striker Spurs signed for £11m was even better than Harry Kane
Tottenham have had some truly fantastic players throughout their history.
Spurs have been fortunate to have some very exceptional footballers pass through their ranks over their history, including Jimmy Greaves, Harry Kane, and Gareth Bale.
Picking the greatest player in Tottenham history is a difficult undertaking, as you might expect, but Younes Kaboul accepted the challenge on the Official Tottenham Hotspur Podcast.
It’s interesting that Kaboul selected a striker as the best player in Spurs history rather than Kane or Greaves.
Dimitar Berbatov was in fact recognized by Kaboul as the greatest player to ever play for Tottenham.
Berbatov Spurs’ best ever player
Kaboul revealed who he thought was the finest player to ever play for Tottenham.
“Which Spurs player has ever been the best?” Kaboul was questioned.
“Ever? I’m not going to give a player from the past. Paul Gascoigne and Glenn Hoddle are legendary, but I haven’t watched them. Berba, I would say. Berba was unique. Right now, I would say Berba off the top of my head,” Kaboul remarked.
Most talented
It’s hard to argue that Berbatov is Tottenham’s greatest ever player. After all, he spent just two seasons at Spurs after signing for £11m from Bayer Leverkusen.
However, in terms of pure natural talent, Berbatov may well be the best Spurs have ever had.
He didn’t have the physical gifts of a Gareth Bale or the workrate of a Harry Kane, but he had this incredible way of playing with zero effort and still being able to bamboozle any defence.
Berbatov was a one of a kind footballer, he could do anything if he put his mind to it, but, half the time, he’d rather just strut around the pitch and take it easy, and we all absolutely loved him for it.
Whether or not you think he’s the greatest to ever play for Tottenham, one thing is for sure, there will never be another quite like Dimitar Berbatov.

Berbatov was a unique football player who was capable of anything if he set his mind to it. However, most of the time, he preferred to stroll around the field and relax, and we all adored him for it.
There will never be another quite like Dimitar Berbatov, whether or not you believe he is the best player to ever play for Tottenham.
