‘We’re not changing’: Postecoglou confirms Spurs plan to scare Arsenal
Australian boss won’t change his exciting attacking style against a Gunners side that relish such open games
As he gets ready for this weekend’s north London derby against Arsenal, Ange Postecoglou has told Tottenham supporters that his team will “scare the life out of” opponents.
With both teams unbeaten in the Premier League and tied on 13 points after five games, Spurs go to the Emirates Stadium for Sunday’s crucial match.
As evidenced by their 4-0 thrashing of PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday in the Champions League, Postecoglou has transformed Spurs from Antonio Conte’s reactive style of play into an exhilarating attacking unit, and he has no intention of backing down, even when facing an Arsenal team that enjoys an open contest.
When asked about his strategy when playing against more experienced opponents, the Australian responded, “In terms of the way we play, mate. We’ll go out and terrorize them to death.
After two seasons in charge of Celtic, where the Old Firm match always defines their season, Postecoglou doesn’t need reminding of the importance of local rivalries.
“I’m well aware of obviously the [north London] rivalry and you take that into account because it means so much to supporters,” the 58-year-old said.
“As manager of Celtic, there was really only one outcome in which the fans were interested.
Against Arsenal, Ange Postecoglou won’t budge from his aggressive philosophies.
“Depending on how the Amazon delivery person carried the gift, I could always tell if he was a fan of the Rangers or the Celtics every time I opened my door! Either he threw it my way or he wanted a selfie! Thus, you are aware of that.
“I adore that; it’s part of the game’s appeal. It’s the zeal it inspires. People want to protect the idea that their football team is an extension of their family. They want to ensure that every week when they engage in combat, especially against our competitors, we triumph.
Postecoglou continued, “It’s a big game, a great test for us as a group, especially away from home.” He was speaking at a Tottenham fan forum on Tuesday.
We’ve already faced significant difficulties away from home. It makes me happy and I’m anticipating it. Our actions are motivated by this.
“We aim to compete in major events and overcome the obstacles in our way. We’ll go play some football there and see where it leads us.
