Erik Lamela says he’d love it if ‘superstar’ player left Tottenham and joined him in Spain
Erik Lamela says he would welcome Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil with open arms if he was to return to Sevilla.
The Spaniard underwent surgery in the summer and is currently healing. He has yet to play this year, contrary to popular belief, which predicted his summer sale.
Lamela would adore a get-together if he ultimately decides to leave Tottenham.
Erik Lamela says he’d love it if Tottenham’s Bryan Gil moved to Sevilla
In the summer of 2021, Tottenham acquired Bryan Gil from Sevilla, and Erik Lamela was a key player in making it happen.
To acquire the gifted winger, one of Spain’s most intriguing possibilities at the time, Spurs paid the Spanish club a sum of £21.4 million (Guardian) and sent the Argentine in the opposite direction.
But Gil’s tenure at Tottenham has fallen short of expectations.
The Spanish athlete, who is known as a “superstar,” has played little over 1,060 minutes of football while wearing a Spurs jersey and has been loaned away twice. Normally, he would have departed in the summer, but a surgery-required injury kept him in North London.
Gil’s future is still far from secure, and Sevilla remain keen on his signature. If that move was to materialise, Lamela says he would love it.
He told Estadio Deportivo: “I would love to (see him back at Sevilla) because of the person he is.
“He is a great companion, I get along great.”
TBR View:
It’s possible that this transaction occurs during the transfer window in January.
Don’t you think Tottenham has a great offense right now? On the wings, they can play Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon as well as Brennan Johnson, Manor Solomon, Son Heung-min, and Dejan Kulusevski.
Gil will find it very tough to make the team, especially without playing in Europe, and there is a risk that Spurs would let him go in the winter transfer window if he doesn’t make an impression once he returns from his injury.
We’re confident that Sevilla would think about re-signing him if he became available. Lamela genuinely wants it to happen, as he has acknowledged.
