La Vanguardia claimed in May that Tottenham Hotspur had expressed interest in hiring Jordi Cruyff as their new sporting director.

The 49-year-old retired from his role as Camp Nou’s sporting director on June 30 and is currently without a club.

According to a “confidential” source from today’s Sport, Tottenham tried to sign him to the team.

The Dutchman’s “international experience” and his “key role in helping Barca sign both Andreas Christensen [in 2022] and lkay Gündoan on free transfers” have helped him open “many more doors.”

Cruyff announced his decision to leave the Catalan club in May and the newspaper states he started receiving offers just a few days after that.

Sport explain that Tottenham were one of them to have sent a proposal and even ‘tempted’ him to become their new sporting director.

They add Spurs contacted Cruyff to explain their plan and project but he ‘took very little time’ to reject their offer.

That’s because Cruyff, at the moment, intends to become a manager and not continue his career as a sporting director, and communicated the same to the north London club.

Jones added, “The Ndombele situation has been very peculiar.”

“He should be one of the Premier League’s top midfielders, but he’s never managed to grasp the opportunities. In the end, I am told that Tottenham were desperate to get him out the door.

He was given a second chance by Ange Postecoglou this summer to establish himself and demonstrate that he might have a future at the club, but he failed to impress, and they just didn’t have place for passengers, so he was forced to move on.

As long as the Turkish window is open, rumors continue to surround players like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who was unable to finalize a transfer before September 1, and goalie Hugo Lloris.

The age of Postecoglou has exploded into existence, and several team members, like center-back Eric Dier, have very unsure futures under the Australian.
