Tottenham made a few massive signings this summer, but one arrival that may have slipped slightly under the radar is Ashley Phillips from Blackburn.

The 18-year-old left the Lancashire club for Spurs earlier this summer, but we haven’t heard much about him since.

Marcus Buckland, speaking on The Tottenham Way Podcast, claims that Phillips is in fact making a big impression during his early Spurs career.

According to the reporter, rumors circulating within Tottenham indicate that Phillips is making a significant impression there and may soon have an opportunity to play for the first team.

The defender’s reputation has been heard about by Buckland.

“Okay, so Ashley Phillips, rumor has it that he’s really impressive in the early going. You guys will have your ears lot closer to the ground than I do in that sense. In addition to Ben Davies and Emerson Royal, we might also use Eric Dier as a center defender, according to Buckland.

Chance incoming?

Phillips is still young, so he can afford to pass the time at Tottenham, but we couldn’t help but wonder whether he might eventually get a shot there.

Given that Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez have both previously left the team, Phillips may be given a chance if Cristian Romero or Micky Van de Ven suffer an injury or are suspended at any point this season.

Although the teenager is still young, he seems to be acting appropriately in training, so perhaps he will soon be in line for a chance at Spurs.

Eric Dier and Pedro Porro have reacted to Davinson Sanchez announcing his Tottenham Hotspur departure via Instagram on Wednesday night.

Davinson Sanchez left the company after six years of service and joined Galatasaray, a Turkish powerhouse.

The 27-year-old has been out of favor at Tottenham for some time due to his declining performances, so his departure is not entirely unexpected.

Daniel Levy has succeeded in getting rid of two undesirable talents this week, with Tanguy Ndombele joining Sanchez in Turkey. After failing to get rid of certain unwanted stars on transfer deadline day, such as Eric Dier, Yves Bissouma responded to the midfielder’s departure.

Despite this, Sanchez wrote on Instagram after leaving Spurs: “I will always have a place in my heart for you, @Spursofficial.”

Pedro Porro posted in the comments section ‘My crack’, added with a sad face emoji, whilst Dier added ‘El Patron’, meaning ‘The Boss’.

Sanchez should have left years ago

Even for Sanchez’s own benefit, this long-awaited departure was one that ought to have taken place years ago.

He was never going to succeed, as was demonstrated by the fact that he was jeered by his own supporters last season.

Sanchez entered the club with a lot of promise after being acquired by Mauricio Pochettino from Ajax, but he simply struggled with the defensive aspect of the game and how quickly the game plays in England.

Eric Dier has reportedly held talks with Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy after being frozen out by Ange Postecoglou this season.

According to The Telegraph, Dier had a “frank conversation” with the chairman of the Spurs this week.

Dier hasn’t played a single minute for Tottenham so far this year, and Postecoglou hasn’t even included him in a single matchday squad.

In fact, the Australian manager chose to start Ashley Phillips, a young player, over the 29-year-old for the next match against Burnley on Saturday.

Naturally, since Davinson Sanchez joined Galatasaray this week, Spurs have released him from their roster.

But it remains unclear whether Dier will be reintegrated into the next squad, even after Sanchez’s departure. And it seems that the £85,000-a-week defender has decided to hold talks with Daniel Levy.

Dier has reportedly spoken with Levy after failing to make Postecoglou’s matchday squads this season, according to The Telegraph.

Although it is stated that the two had a “frank conversation,” there have been no hints of a fight or other fallout.

Although the source asserts that the meeting’s specifics have been kept confidential, it has been deemed ‘probable’ that Dier was looking for clarification regarding both his future and the reason behind his lack of playing time.

With only one year remaining on his contract, Dier is obviously not part of Postecoglou’s long-term intentions for Tottenham.

The Englishman is just not suited to playing in a high defensive line, therefore it is not surprising that the Australian coach has frozen him out of the team.

He even had opportunities to leave this summer and appeared to be leaving before the deadline last week.

Given that Dier had a chance to move on over the summer, it is tough to empathize with him.

This summer, Ange Postecoglou added a number of players to the Tottenham Hotspur roster in an effort to strengthen his squad.

Over the previous few months, Spurs have added players like James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Brennan Johnson, and Manor Solomon.

Along with adding a goalkeeper, Tottenham responded to Hugo Lloris’ wish to quit the team.

Despite receiving a slightly mixed reception upon joining Spurs, Guglielmo Vicario has soon gained a large following.

Vicario is also capable of outstanding stops, such as the one against Burnley in the 56th minute.

On top of that, the £17million man’s attitude has been great. He’s passionate, hungry and eager to keep improving.

Vicario might now make his international debut now that the international break is approaching.

He will play for Italy against North Macedonia and Ukraine in the Euro 2024 qualifying round.

The Spurs goalkeeper was mentioned in a Whoscored piece regarding players who might make their debuts for their countries during the current break.

While Gianluigi Donnarumma appears to be the Azzurri’s top choice for years to come, Luciano Spalletti’s appointment as Italy manager last month gives those vying for a regular spot for the reigning European champions the opportunity to force their way into the reckoning.

Among those hoping to receive his first senior cap is Guglielmo Vicario. With a save success rate of 84.2%, the 26-year-old has shown to be a strong acquisition for a Tottenham team that has 10 points after its first four games. Only Alisson (90%) has earned better.

Vicario has performed well at Tottenham thus far despite the fact that it is still early in the season.

Gianluigi Buffon, a former Italy goalkeeper, said Vicario was performing “extraordinary” feats for the team last year. Let’s hope he can continue playing for the defending Euro 2020 champions and Spurs.
