‘Very strong’ £15m Mourinho signing set to be put up for sale at Tottenham in January

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could now be put up for sale in January after turning down a deadline-day move to Fulham.

The Evening Standard reports that Ange Postecoglou may not have long-term aspirations for the Danish international.

On the last day of the summer transfer window, there was a lot of drama at Hotspur Way.

The team was rushing to offload as many players as they could that Postecoglou did not require for this campaign.

In contrast to Sergio Reguilon, Japhet Tanganga moved on loan to Manchester United.

Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele both made transfers after the deadline, with both players going to Galatasaray.

With Brennan Johnson’s arrival at Spurs, there was one encouraging development.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is one player who didn’t leave Tottenham but might be moving in January.

Fulham offered the £15 million midfielder a chance to join them, but he declined.

In the end, it had a significant knock-on impact that prevented Joao Palhinha from going to his former club Bayern Munich.

It hasn’t, however, ensured his long-term future with Spurs.

Hojbjerg could leave Tottenham in January

According to the Evening Standard’s source, Hojbjerg will probably become available once more during the winter transfer window.

Scott McTominay of Manchester United was another player who Fulham had their eye on on the final day of the season, but he remained at Old Trafford and may become available in January.

Jose Mourinho originally acquired Hojbjerg in 2020, and ever since, he has been one of the first names included on the roster.

The’very strong’ midfielder, though, doesn’t seem to be in Ange Postecoglou’s future plans.

He is not suited to play as one of his system’s two number eights, as Yves Bissouma is his preferred holding player.

Rodrigo Bentancur will only fall lower down the pecking order when he returns from injury in the upcoming months.

Hojbjerg now has some time to plan his next move should he decide to leave Tottenham in January.

Given that Palhinha’s future is uncertain, Fulham might enter the game once more.

He might be hoping Atletico Madrid will come back with a different offer, though.
