According to a few rumours, Tottenham Hotspur may continue their purge by selling Hugo Lloris to a team in Saudi Arabia.
Lloris is no longer employed by Tottenham after Guglielmo Vicario, who was acquired from Empoli in the summer, was named the club’s new starting goalkeeper. Spurs permitted their former captain to look into a departure over the summer. However, he still hadn’t found a new club before the end of the English transfer window.
However, Saudi Arabia’s transfer window is still open, so Lloris could theoretically relocate there. The Frenchman now has the option of moving to the Middle East, according to Football Insider and the Daily Mail.
Although no specific suitors are mentioned for the 36-year-old, the Saudi Pro League has been actively courting famous athletes with alluring offers this season.
According to The Daily Mail, Lloris is aware of the Saudis’ interest. After declining a last-minute return to Nice, he is now deciding what to do.
According to the report, Lloris will consider how any future decisions may affect his young family. But from Spurs’ point of view, he still has the go-ahead to depart.
Clubs in Saudi Arabia have until September 7 to finalize any remaining summer deals. Turkey, where the window is open until September 15, has also been cited by Football Insider as a possible location for Lloris.
Due to the delayed Super Lig deadline, Tottenham just sold Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele to Galatasaray. Again, it’s unclear which specific Turkish clubs may be interested in Lloris, but it could become a possibility.
The former Lyon shot-stopper’s contract in north London has one year left. Over the course of his 11-year tenure with Spurs, he has made nearly 450 appearances, but he no longer plays a significant role for the team he captained until the end of the previous season.
