‘Disrespectful’ – BBC Sport pundit tears into West Ham for David Moyes exit decision
West Ham United have been torn into by Charlie Adam for their “disrespectful” approach when handling David Moyes’ future at the London Stadium.
The Hammers manager’s departure at the end of the current campaign is becoming more and more likely. According to some rumors, the Irons may decide on the manager’s contract before the match against Manchester City.
The current front-runner to take over is Julen Lopetegui, and although BBC Sport pundit Adam believes that fans want to see a change in the dugout, he is perplexed by how West Ham has handled the matter.
Speaking on the BBC’s Football Daily podcast (3 April, 27:00) he said: “I think this is a West Ham decision from the outside in terms of the advocates choosing to make this choice. They’ve made this kind of noise before, but it didn’t work, so they returned to Moyes to save them.
“He’s done a fantastic job, and I feel that the things that have transpired, like managers arriving on private jets and sources close to the football team claiming they are close to Lopetegui, are a little disrespectful.
“This manager has performed amazing work for you, and if David Moyes must leave, it will be a very sad way for him to do so. He ought to have a chance to lead the football team, in my opinion.

As Adam suggested, the supporters have been the primary part pushing for a managerial change this season, with the general consensus being that a more attack-minded manager could take the Hammers to the next level.
While Moyes has been a success in the past at the London Stadium, the results in all competitions have been nowhere near good enough in 2024 and the blame for that simply has to lie at the manager’s door.
It is widely acknowledged by analysts and supporters alike that the football team should have handled the whole thing with greater grace, but with social media prevalent nowadays, it was never going to be feasible to keep the details of the talks confidential.
Before the season ends, maybe the West Ham administration will provide some clarification to the supporters and Moyes, but there will always be people who think the Scotsman deserves a new contract.
