‘I don’t think that’s fair’ – Postecoglou leaps to Harry Kane’s defence amid trophy claim

Ange Postecoglou has rejected the idea that Harry Kane’s decision to leave Tottenham would be deemed a failure if the striker does not win a trophy with Bayern Munich this season.

Although Kane had set numerous goalscoring records at Spurs and won multiple individual awards, opponents’ supporters and commentators would constantly remind the striker that he had not yet taken home any trophies.

That record appeared to be about to end when the 30-year-old switched to Bayern last summer, as the England captain was poised to take home a league winner’s medal.

It is therefore highly possible that the England captain will still be waiting for his first piece of hardware at the end of this season because the Bavarian team mysteriously failed to win the Bundesliga title for the first time in 2012.

Harry Kane left Spurs for more than trophies

Postecoglou has now stepped in to defend the former Tottenham player, stating that his desire to join Bayern was motivated by more than just winning.

The Australian told The Evening Standard, in response to a question about whether Kane’s decision to abandon his Spurs project could be considered unsuccessful if he doesn’t win any hardware this season: “No, I don’t think that’s fair.” For God’s sake, I won’t speak for Harry.

However, I don’t believe that was the main reason he departed. It seems that he expressed his want for a different experience quite clearly, and there’s nothing wrong with that..
