Alan Shearer delivers damning Spurs & Ange Postecoglou verdict as Newcastle United run riot at St James’ Park
Newcastle United 4-0 Tottenham Hotspur: An Alexander Isak brace plus goals from Anthony Gordon and Fabian Schar secured a comfortable win at St James’ Park.
Legend of Newcastle United Alan Shearer gave his old team credit for the way they “dismantled” Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon at St. James’ Park.
Eddie Howe’s team won easily thanks to goals in each half from Anthony Gordon and Fabian Schar, as well as goals from Alexander Isak, who now has 19 and 20 goals for The Magpies this season. Spurs were 13 points ahead of Newcastle in seventh place in the Premier League standings going into the game.
But before the Saturday 3pm kickoffs, Ange Postecoglou’s team had tumbled to fifth place on goal difference at full time, while The Magpies had moved up to sixth.
Throughout the game, Shearer was active on social media, posting, “Another great finish Isaaakkkkkk,” in response to Isak’s opening play.
He then added after Gordon made it 2-0 minutes later: “Van de Ven having a tough time against Isak and Gordon!”
After the break, Isak increased the score to 3-0 by racing onto a long pass forward from Bruno Guimaraes and into the net once more.
“Alex, another fantastic finish! High line!” Shearer sent out a tweet.
Following an outstanding 4-0 victory at St. James’ Park thanks to Schar’s header from Gordon’s corner, Shearer gave his overall assessment of the game. “The Toon have dismantled Ange Ball today!” Shearer wrote. superior in each and every position. Spurs everywhere you look.
Despite a number of injury concerns, Newcastle has won 10 of their last 11 Premier League games since the international break and has only lost two of those games. As a result, they are still in the running for European qualifying.
