Heyward had 2.0 sacks, six tackles for loss, and three quarterback hits this season, compared to 10.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, and 23 quarterback hits in 2022. He isn’t quite the same player he was a few years ago.
He was a six-time Pro Bowl selection prior to this season, and he was included on the All-Pro First-Team in 2017, 2019, and 2021.
Heyward, who entered the 2011 draft with the 31st overall pick, has played his whole career for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The football team’s success in 10 games in 2023 was primarily due to its strong defensive performance; however, if it hopes to win its first postseason match since the 2016 season, it will need to rectify its offensive shortcomings.
The defense, particularly in the secondary and at inside linebacker, has significant gaps, but the team’s biggest weakness is at the quarterback position.
The Steelers will take the 20th choice in the April draft, and although they might not be able to choose from among this year’s best prospects, they might end up with a player who could end up being the obvious successor to the aging Heyward.
