Legendary former Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has made clear he believes Tottenham will never win a Premier League title, despite their fine form this term

Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has stated that he doesn’t believe Tottenham will ever win the Premier League. He made this claim at Newbury Racecourse, just before Tottenham’s dramatic last-minute victory over Brighton.

This isn’t the first time Sir Alex has expressed his views on Tottenham. 15 years ago, he famously said ‘Lads, it’s Tottenham’ to motivate his team. Despite Tottenham’s recent success under Ange Postecoglou, Sir Alex’s opinion hasn’t changed.

In a thrilling match, Brennan Johnson scored a rare goal in the 96th minute, securing Tottenham’s comeback. This was after Pape Matar Sarr equalised following Pascal Gross’ first-half penalty for Brighton. The victory further divides Sunday afternoon’s match between Tottenham and Manchester United.

Postecoglou’s club is nine points behind Tottenham in fourth place, but Sir Alex still thinks they are nowhere close to contending for major titles.

Ferguson smiled and responded, “No!” when asked by Sky Sports if he thought Spurs would ever win the Premier League. “No, that was the last time they won it, well, that’s a long time,” he continued. The Premier League opponents these days, with Manchester City and Liverpool being so strong. We are now forced to fight, even for United.”

“No chance!” was his strong response when asked if Spurs were more likely to win a league title before United won another.

United, who have lost nine of their 23 league games this season, are now coached by Erik ten Hag. They trail local rivals Manchester City, who are second in the table, by a staggering 14 points.

Before retiring, Ferguson himself guided United to their final championship in the 2012–13 campaign. When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer led the team to second place in 2021, 12 points behind winners City, that was the closest they have been since.
