Kliff Kingsbury, a former head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, may be calling plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Steel City.
Arizona After a year at the collegiate level, former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury is becoming more and more popular in the NFL coaching searches.
Following the 2022 season, Kingsbury was let go by the team, and he eventually accepted a position as an offensive analyst and quarterbacks coach at USC, working under head coach Lincoln Riley.
He is anticipated to interview this offseason for many NFL offensive coordinator positions, one of which he has already done with the Chicago Bears.
There may now be another chance in the Steel City.
Following Matt Canada’s firing earlier in the season, the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for a permanent offensive coordinator going forward. The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo identified a number of possible candidates, including Kingsbury.
“Kingsbury is considered something of a quarterback whisperer. During his four-year stint as the Arizona Cardinals head coach, he helped Kyler Murray win Offensive Rookie of the Year and make it to two Pro Bowls,” wrote DeFabo.
“Before that, he worked with Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech and helped Johnny Manziel win the Heisman Trophy
in 2012 as the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for Texas A&M. This cycle, he’s going to be a big name. He has a meeting arranged with the Chicago Bears, who may target Caleb Williams, the quarterback he helped develop at USC.”
Leftwich, a former Cardinal, was also included:
“Leftwich is a Pittsburgh-based individual who merits close observation. The former backup quarterback for the Steelers was successful in Tampa Bay. But to what extent was that due to his skill as a coordinator, and to what extent was the offense designed by Bruce Arians, the head coach at the time, and Tom Brady behind center? DeFabo penned.
Kingsbury’s record in Arizona during his four years there was 28-37-1.
