‘Not good enough’… Jamie Redknapp unhappy with £42m Tottenham player after what he did vs Man United

Jamie Redknapp was unimpressed with Cristian Romero’s defending for Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford today.

On Sunday, Ange Postecoglou welcomed back the Argentine and Micky van de Ven, who had not performed together since early November.

The center-back duo didn’t exactly get off to the best start because Rasmus Hojlund scored three minutes into the game.

Marcus Rashford was put away by Bruno Fernandes, and Destiny Udogie eventually tackled the United winger.

Hojlund seized the opportunity to attack the lost ball, taking a yard off of Cristian Romero and slamming it past Guglielmo Vicario.

Additionally, Romero has come under fire from Jamie Redknapp for trying to block the shot with his hands behind his back.

Redknapp unimpressed with Romero’s defending for Man United goal

Speaking on Sky Sports’ coverage of the game, Redknapp explained why he believes Romero could have done better for United’s opener.

“I want to talk about Romero as well because you see so many defenders today put their hands behind their backs,” the former Spurs man said. “You cannot run properly with your hands behind your back, it’s impossible.

“You see him there, just get your hands out, get in a good balanced position. You see his hands behind his back there, not good enough.”

You can understand why defenders are more inclined to put their hands behind their backs while attempting to block shots since VAR’s introduction to football.

Romero, a £42 million defender, was in a prime position to respond, therefore it’s arguable that he could have handled the situation better.

However, Richarlison’s well-placed header gave Spurs the equalizer at Old Trafford in just 15 minutes.

For extended stretches of the game, Tottenham was in control, but in the fortyth minute, they were caught off guard.

After a nice exchange of passes with Hojlund, Marcus Rashford defeated Vicario by finishing the ball in the bottom corner.

Spurs, however, answered immediately following the break as Timo Werner executed a brilliant play to put up Rodrigo Bentancur.
