Springbok captain Siya Kolisi was being pursued by more than just French powerhouses for his signature. However, why did he decline an offer of R25 million?
Springbok captain Siya Kolisi disclosed that, despite the fact that a lucrative move to Japan was also being considered, Dan Carter assisted in persuading him to join Racing 92.
Kolisi admitted that the All Black played a significant role in his choice to go with Racing after assessing his options.
Kolisi, who has pleasant recollections of Japan, was reportedly approached by the Suntory-owned Tokyo Sungoliaths, who had recently added Cheslin Kolbe and All Blacks captain Sam Cane to their roster on a short-term contract.

A CHANCE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Kolisi was also swayed by the mindset of Racing 92’s principal owner and club chairman, Jacky Lorenzetti.
“Jacky Lorenzetti informed me that he was more interested in hiring rugby players than superstars. This is greatly appreciated,” he remarked.
“We have something to build as Racing 92 is a club that has not accomplished as much as Toulon or Toulouse, and I want to be a part of this history.”
Having played in South Africa my entire life, it’s great to join a new club that is so different. However, Jacky [Lorenzetti] and my colleagues made things simpler for me.
“Everything is going really well because my family moved before me.”
On Sunday, November 26, when Racing 92 plays La Rochelle in the top 14, Kolisi might be making his debut for the team.
Racing 92 was not paired with the Bulls or Stormers in the Champions Cup, so he will not be playing against South African opponents in the group stage.
Kolisi is anticipated to stay as captain despite moving overseas. He has led the Springboks in 53 Test matches.
