Munster have been struck by an injury setback after it was confirmed that star Springboks lock RG Snyman is set to have surgery on a chest/shoulder injury.
The 28-year-old has been celebrating lifting the Rugby World Cup with his home country after they edged New Zealand 12-11 in the final in Paris on October 28.
Surgery for Snyman
Snyman featured prominently for South Africa during the campaign on French soil as he and team-mate Jean Kleyn represented Munster with solid outings.
However, the positivity of their performances in Springboks colours have now been soured by news that the forward is set to have surgery in South Africa.
“RG Snyman suffered a chest/shoulder injury during the World Cup final and will undergo surgery in South Africa
this week,” Munster said in a statement.
Despite struggling with injuries in the past, he was able to resume his playing career towards the close of the previous campaign when they won the United Rugby Championship.
Although Snyman’s absence has not been officially announced, Munster supporters will be hoping it is not for an extended amount of time, since he was excellent towards the end of the previous season.
With Connacht playing on Saturday, Munster is presently gearing up for their game against Ulster on Friday, which if they win would propel them to the top of the league.
Ireland stars back
In addition, Tadhg Beirne, Dave Kilcoyne, Jeremy Loughman, Conor Murray, and Peter O’Mahony have returned to their Munster teammates after their World Cup involvement. Ireland’s Craig Casey and Jack Crowley made a comeback in the victory over the Dragons.
Calvin Nash was forced off the field on Saturday night due to a knee injury; Munster is worried about his health as the medical staff evaluates him.
In other news, Josh Wycherley (neck) and Simon Zebo (foot) are both eligible to play in the important away match after returning to full training this week.
