Ange Postecoglou takes down Gary Neville over ‘copying Pep Guardiola’ slur
Ange Postecoglou last night brutally took down Gary Neville in response to claims he was “copying Pep” in the Premier League.
Following his appointment as manager of Tottenham, Postecoglou was questioned and criticized by numerous pundits for his inverted full-back system.
Neville, who cited Postecoglou’s style as a Pep-inspired concept, was one of the first to be less than convinced.
After Spurs defeated Crystal Palace to maintain their Premier League lead last night, pundit Jamie Carragher couldn’t help but bring up Neville’s remarks to Postecoglou.
“At the moment you are just copying Pep, aren’t you?” he asked in a playful way.
Postecoglou played along and retorted, “I just study one game a week and see what he is doing, and I go from there!
And there’s nothing wrong with that, you know that.
Neville then jumped in to insist he tried to copy Guardiola during his nightmare spell as Valencia boss. He said: “I
sought to imitate him.
Postecoglou savaged Neville in an instant while grinning and asking, “How’d that go?”
Not content to stop there, the former Celtic manager joked as his on-air interview came to an end, saying, “I’ll just go watch Man City.”
Even though they have played one more game than their closest rivals, Man City and Arsenal, Spurs are currently five points clear at the top of the table.
Spurs have won eight of Postecoglou’s first ten games, drawing two, and maintaining their unbeaten record.
Chris Sutton lauded Ange Postecoglou for his stellar start to life in the South, saying, “After 10 games, Postecoglou has made the greatest managerial impact in Premier League history.” It is not debatable.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur earned praise from Jamie Carragher after the Spurs man returned to action on Friday night.
The midfielder for Tottenham made an appearance in the team’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace, moving them five points clear atop the Premier League standings.
Prior to sustaining a cruciate ligament injury in February of last season, Bentancur was regarded as one of the Spurs’ most important players.
The 26-year-old returned to action in the last moments of the game, replacing Dejan Kulusevski after a ten-month absence.
A few Tottenham players pushed the £19 million man toward the Spurs away fans to be greeted during the post-match festivities.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher praised Bentancur’s comeback to the Spurs team.
“Great to see Bentancur,” he said on the channel, as transcribed on the BBC Sport website.
“You can see how much the fans love him; he was fantastic when he first joined Tottenham.
The Tottenham team will undoubtedly benefit if he can return to anything like his peak.
Bentancur boost as Tottenham continue flying high
Tottenham had one of their worst seasons in recent memory due to Bentancur’s injury-caused absence, which was a severe blow.
The Lilywhites concluded the season outside of the European spots, without a director of football or a manager. Harry Kane was also lost to Bayern Munich.
The rapidity with which things can shift. Spurs will now continue to lead the Premier League standings after matchweek ten, and the gains keep coming.
The addition of Bentancur will bolster Tottenham’s squad even more as they aim to build on their incredible league run and potentially win the FA Cup or league itself.
