Farmer west Brom player send strong message after Ryan Mason appointment

It’s been clear for some time that Ryan Mason was always the favourite for the job; it was just a matter of waiting until he was finished with the Europa League campaign at Tottenham Hotspur.

West Brom now have their man, though, and preparations for the season ahead can commence. We’re all waiting to see what Mason can do in his first full managerial role, and what kind of team he will assemble this summer.

Former player Nigel Quashie is just happy to see the club making a bold appointment, though, and has praised chairman Shilen Patel for going in this direction.

Quashie tweeted: “Great to see West Brom moving forwards with Ryan Mason. What stands out is the new owner isn’t afraid to give an opportunity to the next generation of young managers looking to break through.

“This is someone who has seen it all on and off the pitch as a player then transitioning into coaching. What I’ve been told is he’s first class with young players, they can benefit from him too because this club has always produced from the academy.

“He’s done things the right way being the u19’s Champions League coach at Tottenham going on to be head of development from u17s to the old u23’s program now u21’s then into the first team being an interim manager on two occasions.”

Quashie went on to explain how the reactions of the players Mason has left behind at Tottenham will tell us a lot about the way he operates. He added: “Also to be considered to stay on the coaching staff every time a new manager has come into his previous club shows how highly thought of he is by first team players.

“Now I think it’s the right time for West Brom and Ryan to connect both being fearless to take this club in a positive direction.”

It’s hard to predict what will happen in the Championship next season, but West Brom will be hoping this change at the top can deliver them success and a return to English football’s top table.

What can we expect from Ryan Mason at West Brom?

First of all, we know Mason’s first move was to bring two coaches with him from Spurs, with Sam Pooley coming in as Head of Performance and Nigel Gibbs arriving from Reading (having previously worked with Mason at Tottenham) to become Assistant Head Coach.

Tottenham fans have told West Brom to expect good things from the young coach, with attacking football and hard work believed to be on the menu.

However, it is thought West Brom’s transfer budget will be relatively modest, which will mean Mason needs to act smart in the market this summer.
